Bahamas Senator Involved in Travolta Plot Resigns

Saturday, a Bahamas senator that was accused of having tried to extort money from actor John Travolta after his son's death resigned and stated she would prove her innocence.

Senator Pleasant Bridgewater, an attorney from Grand Bahama and a  former member of the Bahamian parliament, said she would fight the charges she deemed unfair and untrue that had resulted from actions she had taken as a lawyer.

Authorities arrested Bridgewater Thursday  under the suspicion that she was involved in a conspiracy to extort money from John Travolta, while on Friday, she was released on $40,000 bail.

Police have also detained ambulance driver Tarino Lightbourne, who rushed Travolta’s son to hospital and afterwards told the press that he had tried to revive the boy, in the same matter, along with former tourism minister Obie Wilchcombe.

Lightbourne remains in custody, whereas Wilchcombe, who says he is a friend of John Travolta who was with the actor briefly after his son Jett died, has been released pending further investigation.

Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Marvin Dames said that Lightbourne had been arrested for attempted extortion, adding that no charges had been brought to him.

At the beginning of the year, Jett Travolta, 16, was found collapsed in a bathroom as a result of seizure and having hit his head on the bathtub and was afterwards taken to Rand Memorial Hospital in Freeport by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.

Jett was Travolta and Preston’s oldest child, the couple also having an 8-year-old daughter named Ella Bleu.
