The Spice Girls have all grown up from flamboyant pop singers of the 1990s to proud mommies. Emma Bunton is the latest Spice Girl to become a Spice Mom.
Emma Bunton, being the youngest and the most innocent looking of the five singers, was dubbed Baby Spice. Throughout the group’s history, she frequently sported baby dolls, bangs and ponytails.
Baby is all grown up now and mother to a real baby. Last Friday Emma gave birth to baby boy Beau. The singer’s website announced that Beau was born weighing a “healthy” 7 lbs 15oz, “coincidentally exactly the same weight as [dad] Jade when he was born!”
Jade Jones, Emma’s longtime boyfriend and Beau’s dad, said outside the London hospital where the baby was born: “He is absolutely brilliant and both baby and Emma are doing fine. We are both absolutely delighted and can’t wait to take Beau home.”
Emma’s spokesperson said she was happy and well and that her first request after delivering Beau was for Coca Cola and flapjacks.
Emma and Jade, formerly in Damage and currently lead singer in CherryBlackStone, have been together for some eight years now. There have been rumors of engagement but both have denied such plans.
Other Spice Girls to have experienced motherhood are Melanie Brown, Victoria Beckham and Geri Halliwell. All four will join former member Melanie Chisholm quite soon, as they embark on a reunion tour.
It was earlier this summer that the group of five announced they would once again form the Spice Girls and give fans around the world a chance to see them in concert.
In December, they have gigs in Los Angeles, New York and Las Vegas. In January, they travel to Beijing and Honk Kong in China, as well as to Sydney, Australia and Cape Town, South Africa. It does look as if the Spice Girls are ready to take on the world!
They are also preparing a Greatest Hits CD as well as a documentary. (seeing how their fanbase was mostly prepubescent and adolescent girls, are they not at all worried that the fans have also grown up? One wonders.)
