Autopsy On John Travolta's Son Planned For Monday

Two pathologists will perform an autopsy in the Bahamas for actor John Travolta's 16-year-old son, authorities said. The body will be flown to Ocala, Fla. for burial as soon as the autopsy is completed.

Jett Travolta died suddenly on Friday morning while on vacation at his family's resort home in the Bahamas. According to police representatives, the autopsy, which could determine the cause of death the teenager, will likely be performed on Monday. A U.S.-certified clinical and forensic pathologist from Nassau will fly into Grand Bahama on Monday to help perform the autopsy, Dr. Hubert Minnis told The Associated Press.

Police Superintendent Basil Rahming said the boy was found unconscious by a caretaker at his family's home at the Old Bahama Bay resort on Grand Bahama Island. Travolta's lawyer and close friend, Michael McDermott, and family attorney, Michael Ossi, explained in a statement to TMZ.com that Jett's fatal injury was apparently caused when he hit his head on the bathtub, toilet seat or both.

"This is the worst day in Mr. and Mrs. Travolta's life -- nobody wants to bury their child," Ossi said.

For the time being it is unclear whether Jett suffered a seizure which caused him to slip or whether a seizure occurred after he fell.

Despite reports claiming the boy's body was undiscovered for a long period of time, the two lawyers said Jett's injury occurred in a "small window of time" before he was found.

John Travolta, his wife Kelly Preston and their two children arrived in Grand Bahama on December 30 for a New Year family get-together and planned to stay until January 9.

Although Jett, who was born in 1992, was said to be suffering from autism, his parents strongly denied the rumors instead claiming he was inflicted with Kawasaki Syndrome, which can cause heart disease. However, a specialist in the disease at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine told New York Daily News that seizures are not a part of Kawasaki disease so it's unlikely his death was caused by his disease in any way.
