Authorities are continuing the search for a fourth victim in the terrible plane crash in San Diego, California. A US military plane crashed into a home in a California suburb. The four members of the family inside the house died, but rescue personnel haven’t found the corpse of the infant.
A day after the crash occurred, search teams are still making efforts to find the fourth victim. The military jet, an F/A-18 fighter plunged from the sky into the San Diego neighborhood of University City. The crash wrecked two houses and damaged three others.
The pilot of the military jet managed to eject in time and landed in the grounds of a nearby school. The pilot was carrying out training exercises and was heading towards the Marine Corps Air Station in Miramar. The plane had just performed a landing on a Navy aircraft, but after taking off again, the pilot reported having problems with the jet.
The three dead include a 36-year-old nurse, one of her two infant sons, and the woman's mother. The father of the infant, a businessman, was at work at the time of the crash.
The formal identification of the four victims hasn’t been done yet. However, according to the South Korean Yonhap news agency, the two adult victims were South Korean nationals.
The main cause of the crash may be equipment malfunction, US military officials said.
"We don't know exactly what was the cause of the problem he was having, and ... we will be conducting a thorough safety investigation to find that out," Marine Corps colonel Chris O'Connor said on Monday.
