Austin Nichols, who starred in HBO’s short-lived “John from Cincinnati” series, was
arrested today on suspicion of drunken driving.
Hollywood
seems to abound in celebrity drunken driving cases… Hardly a day goes by
without somebody famous getting arrested, charged, having their driving license
suspended and/or being placed under probation.
While Austin Nichols may not be as amply familiar to the
public as Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie or, of course, most notorious
until-recently-underage-drinker Lindsay Lohan, he too has been added to the
vast roster of Hollywood acts caught in the
act of drunk driving.
The 27-year-old actor was pulled over by police in the early
hours of Friday morning after being observed driving the wrong way down a
one-way street in Jackson, Michigan, Lt. John Holda said.
An officer smelled alcohol on the actor, who was driving a
silver Mercury Mountaineer at the time of his arrest and conducted sobriety
tests. He subsequently took Nichols into custody.
Holda added that Nichols had a blood-alcohol content of 0.10
percent, which is above the 0.08 legal limit in Michigan.
Nichols was released within a few hours. Jackson County
sheriff Lt. Carl Carmoney stated Nichols was not arraigned and would appear in
court at a later date.
If Nichols is convicted of drunk driving, he could be facing
up to 93 days in jail, as well as $500 fine and community service. Surely
you’ve heard all this before?
Local paper The Jackson Citizen Patriot said the actor has
been living at nearby Clark
Lake over the summer.
Nichols played the title character in the HBO surfer drama
“John from Cincinnati”
during its first and only season. The cable channel announced earlier this
month that it had decided to discontinue airing the show that had only
premiered in June 2007.
Nichols has also appeared in another, considerably more
successful HBO series: “Deadwood.”
