With beach volleyball champ Misty May-Treanor definitely out of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" due to having her Achilles tendon ruptured on Friday, the show's producers might have to replace her, and who could fit better than recently-eliminated Kim Kardashian?
Although for now it's just a bunch of rumors, the reality star expressed her desire to go back on the dancing competition as May-Treanor's replacement.
"I would totally go back, if they ask me," Kim Kardashian, who was eliminated last week, said Tuesday on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show. "I ... would like that chance to have one break-through dance."
May-Treanor appeared on Monday's show to announce the fans she wasn't going to perform on the show anymore.
"I ruptured my Achilles tendon and from that point on I knew I couldn’t continue. I’m out and I’m really bummed," the athlete, who is set to have surgery later this week, told People.com immediately after the show. "We don’t know why these things happen. They could happen to anyone. I feel like I was only just beginning here."
She also talked about her injury and how painful the experience was, saying, "it felt like I got hit in the back of my leg with a baseball bat." Although May-Treanor admitted that at first she did not want to give up, she eventually realized that she was unable to walk and was immediately transported to a hospital.
Maksim Chmerkovskiy, May-Treanor's professional dancer partner didn't take her leave too well, and even got a little emotional while telling Usmagazine.com after the show that "it sucks" when injuries happen next to someone you know. "You would almost rather it happened to you. It's a freak occurrence - it had nothing to do with this competition, nothing to do with her shoes. It's a wear and tear on her body from 20 years of volleyball."
"This whole thing is really sad, and I'm just sad!" he added.
However, despite the lengthy recovery period, which will be around nine months, May-Treanor assured everyone she would be back on the volleyball court, and "maybe on the ballroom."
May-Treanor, who had a previous knee injury from playing volleyball, and her partner, had been a formidable dancing duo, scoring a 21 out of 30 for their previous foxtrot, mambo and paso double routines.
Co-host Samantha Harris said what May-Treanor's early exit means for the competition would be revealed on Tuesday's show.
Still, Kardashian is hopeful enough that she texted her dancing partner, Mark Ballas, to ask him whether he knew anything about going back.
"He said, 'It's just rumors. They come up with these crazy stories. I don't know what's going on!'" Kardashian recalled on Seacrest's radio show. When Seacrest noted that it's suspicious Kardashian was back in Los Angeles, as she had accompanied her boyfriend to New Orleans, she refused to confirm anything else.
