Today at the WiMax Expo, Asustek Computer decided to offer a
preview of its Eee PC 901, the new ultraportable laptop based on Intel’s Atom
processor, one day ahead of schedule.
The laptop is based on a 1.6 Hz Atom processor, has a 8-9
inch screen, a memory-card slot, 1 G - byte of memory. The two operating
systems available will be Windows XP or Linux, each with a different solid-state
drive: the Linux version will have a 20 G - byte SSD and the Windows XP version
will present a 12 G - byte SSD.
The company also announced the release of a WiMax version of
the laptop that will be available for purchase later this year.
Among its standard features, the 901 PC will offer Wi-Fi and
Bluetooth and the battery life will be of four to six hours, showing a
significant improvement to the 900’s two and a half hours. The laptop will weight
1.14 kg and feature two sets of colors: black and white.
The WiMax Expo is part of Taipei’s annual Computex
exhibition and the official release of the 901 PC will take place tomorrow.
Asusteck Computer Incorporated is a Taiwan-based company,
founded in 1989 which produces a large variety of products including graphics
cards, optical drives, computers, servers, mobile phones and computer
components. The company also collaborates with a large number of corporations
like Sony, Apple Inc., Palm Inc., HP and Alienware.
