Asus presented its new Eee Top 1602 all-in-one desktop, which will be available in the United States starting with next month. Its appeal is based on the design features and user-friendly touch interface.
On the outside, users can observe a 15 - inch, 1366 – by - 768 resolution LCD touch screen, a white chassis and transparent plastics. The device includes the quick navigation Eee Bar and the Easy Mode software interface/program launcher which uses finger-friendly buttons. There are also various dinger-friendly programs such as a sticky notes app called Eee Memo, the Eee Cinema media viewer and even several games. Other applications provided include Skype, Opera and StarSuite 8.
It has a 802.11n Wi-Fi adapter and even though it cannot compete with a laptop in terms of portability (it doesn’t have a battery) it is easy to move around thanks to its 9.5 pounds. It also comes with a 1.3-megapixel Webcam, seven USB 2.0 ports, a multiformat memory-card reader, an Ethernet jack, a microphone, a 160 GB hard drive and four-watt stereo speakers.
The company included three discs for users to restore the system and reinstall the applications and drivers if needed.
It is powered by a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, with 1 Giga Byte of RAM and integrated Intel 945 graphics, and runs on Windows XP Home edition, which means that the performances are not extraordinary, but can still deliver good results. The announced retail price of $600 can be looked at as fair, considering the special design features and the friendly interface.
