Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and husband Pete Wentz are the happy
parents of newborn Bronx Mowgli Wentz, a spokesperson has confirmed to People
magazine.
Simpson-Wentz, 24, delivered a boy, named Bronx Mowgli
Wentz, on Thursday night, weighing 7 lbs., 11 oz., and was 20 1/2 inches long. All
three are “healthy and happy,” the spokesperson said, and thank everyone for
their well wishes.
Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Pete Wentz, 29, first revealed they
were expecting a baby in May, with the singer saying she was enthusiastic about
one day having a large family and her Fall Out Boy bassist hubby quipping, “A
big soccer team or a band!” Bronx is their
first child.
The two artists began their relationship in late 2006 and
soon became inseparable and quite the tabloid fodder. Countless articles were
published about their relationship, about their supposed engagement, a baby on
the way, plans to marry.
Ashlee and Pete addressed such rumors via messages posted on
FriendsorEnemies.com. In early April, they thus revealed they were “happily
engaged,” thanked their fans for their support and well wishes and declared
they wanted their public to know first “because you guys are the best.” Earlier
this year, Ashlee had been spotted wearing a diamond ring on her engagement
finger, which she explained was a promise ring from Pete.
In April, Joe Simpson, father to Ashlee and her older pop
turned country singer sister Jessica Simpson, told People.com he was excited to
have Pete join the family and said they were all “blessed.”
Later that month, both lovebirds denied rumors regarding
impending parenthood. Ashlee took to her MySpace Celebrity blog while Pete sent
an impassioned email to MTV News complaining there is a “witch hunt” for people
to be expecting a baby whenever they become engaged, which is not always
necessarily the case.
Ashlee and Pete surprised everyone in mid-May when they
secretly married at her parents’ home in Los
Angeles. Jessica Simpson, who was accompanied at the
event by Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, acted as maid of honor while
Pete’s bulldog Hemingway acted as ring bearer. After the Alice in Wonderland-inspired wedding, the two
honeymooned in Turks and Caicos.
She changed her name to Ashlee Wentz, saying she found this
tradition, of the wife taking the husband’s name, to be meaningful, and added
she would go professionally as Ashlee Simpson-Wentz.
Hardly had two weeks passed from the wedding when the newly
married couple revealed they were expecting a child. Earlier this month they
held a Winnie the Pooh-themed baby shower.
