Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz have obviously decided to do
things in their own rhythm. After months of speculation, they’ve now confirmed
they are expecting their first baby.
2008 has so far been a year of considerable attention from
the media for singer Ashlee Simpson and Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz.
There was speculation they were engaged and it was finally confirmed.
They were expected to marry within a few months and they married within weeks,
in mid-May, during a very discreet ceremony.
They have long been rumored to be expecting a baby (hence
the engagement and subsequent marriage) and now they have confirmed the
pregnancy as well.
The newlyweds wrote once more on FriendsorEnemies.com to
announce they were starting a family.
“While many have speculated about this, we wanted to wait
until after the first trimester to officially confirm that we are expecting our
first child,” they wrote. “This is truly the most joyous time in our lives and
we are excited to share the happy news and start our family.”
Ashley, 23, and Pete, 28, married on May 17 at her parents’
home in Los Angeles.
After the Alice
in Wonderland-inspired wedding, the two honeymooned in Turks and Caicos.
Earlier this week, People revealed that Ashlee Simpson had
changed her name to Ashlee Wentz, but probably would go professionally as
Ashlee Simpson-Wentz. She told the magazine that she considered it a “great
tradition” for a woman to change her name to that of her husband’s.
The young lovers have been together since late 2006. Joe
Simpson, father and manager to Ashlee and older sister Jessica Simpson, has
called Pete “a good kid,” declaring he is “totally happy” and “so excited to
have Pete as part of (our) family.”
In early April, Ashlee and Pete posted another message on FriendsorEnemies.com,
telling their fans, “because you guys are the best,” that they were “happily
engaged.”
