Think twice before firing someone as they might go crazy and
shoot somebody. This is the case of Timothy Dale Johnson, 50, who got fired and
went out to Arkansas'
Democratic Party headquarters to shoot Bill Gwatney, its chairman.
According to The Associated Press, officials said that Timothy
Dale Johnson of Searcy fatally shot Bill Gwatney. Later, police officers shot
dead Johnson. It appears that the two men Bill Gwatney and Timothy Dale Johnson
didn’t know each other. Now, police and neighbors are trying to figure out why
Johnson drove about 30 miles to shoot Gwatney.
Police said that Timothy Dale Johnson had been working at a
target retail store in Conway
until Wednesday when he was fired because he wrote graffiti on the wall.
Shortly after he lost his job, Johnson drove up to Gwatney’s office in Little Rock, carrying a
gun.
“He said he was interested in volunteering, but that was
obviously a lie,” said Sam Higginbotham, a volunteer at the party headquarters,
according to The Associated Press.
After Johnson shot Gwatney, he got in his truck and drove
away, stopping at the Arkansas State Baptist Convention where he pointed his
gun at the building’s manager. Dan Jordan, the church group's business manager,
asked Johnson what was wrong and the gunman replied that he had lost his job.
Police officers chased the suspect and when Johnson got out
of the car, he began shooting at deputies and state troopers. They shot back
and hit Johnson, who later died at a hospital.
Neighbors of Timothy Dale Johnson said that he was quiet man
and they didn’t have much contact with him. His parents died in the past 10
years and Johnson was living alone.
Bill Gwatney was a super delegate to the Democratic National
Convention this month in Denver.
He was a supporter of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton but endorsed Sen. Barack
Obama after Clinton
dropped out of the presidential race.
Both Clinton and Barack Obama expressed their condolences.
