The Arkansas television anchorwoman brutally attacked in her own home and found unresponsive in bed by her mother on Monday died of her injuries on Saturday night.

Anne Pressly, 26, a popular television anchorwoman on Little Rock’s KATV, died at St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center, a day after it had been reported that she was somewhat improved, although still in critical condition and unable to communicate verbally. Her doctors were optimistic about her recovery, but unfortunately she died on Saturday.

On announcing the news, her parents, Patricia and George G. Cannady, asked for privacy as they grieved.

“It was our hope, as was yours, that Anne would overcome the injuries inflicted upon her in the brutal attack at her home. We were with her in her last moments, and although our hearts are broken, we are at the same time comforted by our faith knowing that Anne is now with our heavenly father,” they said in a statement.

Pressly was rushed to hospital Monday after her mother found her beaten beyond recognition in her own home, in the Pulaski Heights neighborhood, close to the Little Rock Country Club. Her mother had gone to Pressly’s home to check on her after she did not answer a wake-up call and thus probably saved her life. Pressly was to appear on the ABC affiliate’s “Daybreak” program in half an hour.

The police have no suspects yet. Pressly’s purse was taken from her home in the attack. And right now the police think the motive of the disaster was robbery.

According to the investigators, the incident is treated as a random attack.

“Right now, it's being treated as a random incident. It's unfortunate that it was Ms. Pressly, a news reporter, someone that's visible in the community. With what we have, we can only treat it as a random attack, that being a robbery,” Sgt. Cassandra Davis told the AP.
