Recently, NASA has begun to concentrate on its new Ares project. Ares consists of several Shuttle-Derived Launch Vehicles and is part of the agency’s Project Constellation program.
Ares I is the shuttle that certainly gets the most attention from media, as it will be the only one to carry astronauts in space. The spacecraft’s name comes from the Greek god of war and one might argue that the name is well deserved, as the project has always triggered several controversies.
Moreover, the space agency has made many modifications to the project it some people expect that it would be delayed due to some technical problems.
However, the Ares project has become more and more popular recently, as NASA included Ares I and Ares V, along with the Orion capsule in its plans for travelling to the moon once again.
Some scientist argue that the entire project might be doomed upon arrival, as NASA has yet to repair major flaws with its shuttles. Nevertheless, others pointed out that the several updates of the shuttle’s design are normal and occur on a regular basis with any other project.
Still, President Obama stated that he would offer more support to the space agency, which already has a $17 billion annual budget. Even though NASA might receive further support from the Obama administration, it will be hard for the engineers to finish their projects, as the agency had already delayed them several times in the past.
