A new study has found that mobile gaming is now surging in popularity and smart phones, like iPhone and BlackBerry Curve, who are leaders in this market. They overcame Motorola Razr, as their use has dramatically surged in mobile gaming. The study also revealed that six of the top 10 phones for mobile gaming are smartphones.
The first is Apple's 8GB iPhone , followed by the original 8GB iPhone and the 16 GB iPhone at number 3. The other phones in this top ten include the BlackBerry Curve 8330, BlackBerry Curve 8310, the Samsung Instinct M800 and LG VX10000 Voyager.
It looks like 34% of game downloads in November were made by a smartphone owner. Last year, not one smartphone appeared in the top 10 devices used for mobile downloads. Mobile game downloading via smart-phones nearly tripled in November 2008, from 734,000 to nearly three million, and 32.4 percent of the smartphone owners reported that they downloaded games using Apple's iPhone.
Apple's gadget accounted for 14 percent of mobile game downloads, and it's clear that is has grown in popularity because of its touch screen, robust processor, and 3-D graphics capabilities. Recent data shows that 8.5 million people, or 3.8% of mobile subscribers downloaded a game in November, while 20.5 million, or 8.9% played a downloaded game.
Anyway, almost anyone could have assumed that the iPhone makes for a great gaming platform that is growing in popularity. Rumors of an App Store Plus even appeared, with premium $19.99 content, and it's logical move for Apple, given the rise of its top gadget in this emerging market.
