Apple published a support document Wednesday titled "About the Late-September 2008 MobileMe update," detailing the improvements that have been made to MobileMe since late September. Moreover Apple said it would continue to work on improving the service. Above this, the long list of updates mentions improvements to MobileMe mail, accounts, calendars, contacts, and the gallery.
For Windows users, Apple has improved performance in Contacts for I.E. 7, and re-enabled the ability to export vCards from MobileMe contacts. Toss in some more interface issues for Contacts and Gallery, as well as improved iPhone performance in Gallery.
All in all, Apple mentioned 27 different fixes it applied to the service. "Apple is always working to improve MobileMe," the company said in the notice. "Since MobileMe is primarily a server-side, or "cloud"-based, service, the MobileMe team can make improvements and push updates to MobileMe without any action being required of MobileMe customers. Since server-side updates are a bit more innocuous than a standard software update to Mac OS X or Microsoft Windows, it's easy not to notice that updates are occurring. Usually the only hint of these updates is that things just 'work better'."
MobileMe, which debuted in July as a revamp of Apple's former online service, .Mac, was far from being a success. Apple apologized for the poor debut a week later, and as an olive branch, extended users' subscriptions by 30 days. But as problems continues, CEO Steve Jobs had to shake up senior management at the company, and Apple again offered a second subscription extension, this one for 60 days, a week later.
