Apple is planning to reveal some new information about its
further actions in a conference next Tuesday. Rumor has it that the company
plans to make new models for some of its products such as the MacBook, MacBook Pro,
iPod Nano and the iPod Touch, as well as to update some of the existent models.
The event which takes place on September 9 is called "Let's
Rock." Apple has scheduled the event to take place at the Yerba Buena
Center for the Arts in San Francisco
at 10:00 a.m. local time. According to the AppleInsider, the event will be focused on music
only, and will have nothing to do with the release of their latest Mac
notebooks.
Thus we may expect to see rather different and cheaper iPod
touch players and iPod nanos. However the event will not unveil a new breed of
handheld multi-touch device.
Jeff Gamet, managing editor at The Mac Observer, told
MacNewsWorld the following: "My best guess is that Apple will be
introducing new products to their iPod line. That's because the invitation they
sent out has a couple of hints. It says 'let's rock,' which implies music. And
the second is that it includes one of the silhouette images that is typical of
the older iPod ads. Put those together and that sounds to me like new iPod
announcements."
But in order to surprise the public Apple can’t just cut off
a few more inches out of the device; their challenge is pretty hefty. An
appropriate suggestion would be to add WiFi to the players as suggested by a Yankee
Group analyst, Joshua Martin. Another one would be to finally have a bigger
screen for a new, longer nano for watching video. The current version is only 2
inches. Possible color changes for the iPod line may also be presented, the
addition of GPS or maybe better screens.
Images from Macrumors.com come to support the suggestions
above: the iPod Nano will go back to the more rectangular shape with a longer
screen than the original. But all these are sheer speculations around Apple’s
skeleton in the closet that will indeed be revealed Tuesday.
The iPod is the market leader in portable music players,
which was first released on October 23, 2001 worldwide with its 4 main
versions: the iPod classic (2001) with a memory of 80 and 160 GB, the iPod nano
(2005) with a 4 and an 8 GB memory, the iPod shuffle (2005) available in 1, 2
and 4 GB models, and the iPod touch (2007) available in 8, 16 and 32 GB models.
On top of that, it is also believed that we are going to be
seeing some big new changes to the Apple iTunes software as well in the near
future, but we don’t know whether this will happen at the “Let’s Rock”
conference.
