Apple’s Originality Created a Worldwide Mania

In two ads placed in the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times, Apple wants to let the world know that in addition to the 300 million apps already downloaded, the App Store also passed the 10,000 app mark in the store.
The ad underlines the fact that the iTunes App Store has now distributed "over 300 million" iPhone apps from a total of "over 10,000" titles available. There is no doubt about the fact that these 300 million must include a ton of downloads of The Blimp Pilots' Koi Pond, the most popular paid app, and Pandora Media's Pandora Radio, the most popular free app in Apple's list of the top 25 paid and free apps from the iTunes App Store.
That means since July 11, when the store opened, Apple has averaged nearly 2.1 million downloads and 69 new apps a day. Of course, some of these applications are free, but it’s unclear exactly how many of the 10,000 Apple charges for.
Apple last provided figures on Oct. 21 during the company’s earnings report. At that time, it said it had 200 million downloads and 5,500 Apps. Since then, the number of apps has jumped by 45 percent, while downloads grew by 50 percent. The store has grown significantly since launching July 11. Initially, it had 500 Apps; within three days, there were 800 apps and 10 million downloads.
The ads highlight some of the applications available for the iPhone, but the print on the bottom of the ads reveals some new, previously unreleased, information. Get ready for this one: according to the advertisement, it means that 100 million applications have been downloaded in the past six weeks. Only Apple is capable of such outer-space performances.
The contrast between 2007's list and this year’s list is astonishing. The 2007 countdown includes games like Frenzic, Punchout!, MindDojo, iDuckHunt and SMASH!. However this year's list includes more advanced titles such as: Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D, Cro-Mag Rally and Enigmo. Other popular apps from 2007 included Google Search, fingerprint analyzer FingerScan and Zinio Mobile Newsstand--compare that to this year, where premium apps as eclectic as Koi Pond, PocketGuitar and iBeer all made the cut. The iPhone 3G has proven to be a strong gaming platform due to its touch screen, strong processor, motion controls, and graphics capabilities.
Speaking of apps, there’s a new one waiting for you as Candywriter has announced the release of My Lease Miles for the iPhone and iPod touch. It costs $0.99 and is available for purchase through the App Store. The software is a mileage calculator designed for people who lease their vehicles. You enter some basic information about your car's lease and then open the app whenever you want to enter odometer readings. This is quite incredible, indeed.
