Applebee's Robbers Arrested After Wild Chase

Four suspects in a restaurant hold-up in Airmont, New York, were arrested Sunday after a car chase that ended on George Washington Bridge with a crash and one of the suspects attempting to jump off.

Four persons involved in a robbery at an Applebee’s restaurant in Rockland County early Sunday morning were eventually arrested by police, Detective Lt. Brad Weidel, of the Town of Ramapo police, said.

The robbery was reported to Ramapo police who pursued the robbers' car southbound on the Palisades Parkway, Weidel said, as quoted by Newsday.

Team effort was required to apprehend the four robbers, as additional agencies including the New York State Police, the Fort Lee, N.J., police, the New York Police Department and the Rockland County Sheriff's Department joined in the chase, the paper notes.

The chase ended when the robbers crashed into another car as they attempted to enter the upper deck of the George Washington Bridge, Weidel said. The two-level suspension bridge crosses the Hudson River between upper Manhattan and Fort Lee.

Weidel said the four robbers exited the damaged car and ran away, with one of them trying to jump off the bridge. He suffered multiple injuries. Another robber attempted to carjack a vehicle and was hit by a police car. He suffered injuries as well.

A third suspect was arrested in Fort Lee by Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police, Weidel said, and the fourth was found hiding in a large metal trash bin nearby and was arrested.

Police recovered from the fourth suspect a toy gun painted black to resemble a real revolver, Weidel said.

The suspects' identities were not revealed Sunday afternoon.
