Apple to Reward the Customer of the 1 Billionth Downloaded App

Apple is getting closer to the 1 billionth application downloaded from the App Store and it doesn’t plan to let the event pass unnoticed. Apple said it will reward the user who downloads the 1 billionth app.

Apple put up a countdown Web page for customers to see how the 1 billion barrier nears. As of this writing, the counter was about 945 millions apps. The company will reward the customer who manages to download the one billionth app with $10,000 in iTunes credit, a 17-inch MacBook Pro, a 32-GB iPod Touch, and a Time Capsule.

The number of downloaded apps it astonishing high, especially when you think that the App Store has been launched just les then a year ago. When announcing it would reward the customer who buys the 1 billionth app, Apple also unveiled its top 20 downloaded apps. The list includes apps such as Tap Tap Revenge, Super Monkey Ball, and Koi Pond, as well as a Facebook app, which was one of the top downloaded free apps.

As if it didn’t already had, Apple’s App Store will gather even more momentum once the iPhone 3.0 software is released. If a new iPhone will be launched this summer, the number of iPhone users will surely grow and, with it, the nuber of potential applications customers.
