Apple’s plans for the remained of 2008 don’t include updates
to the iMac and Mac Mini, the company said in a recent statement, surprising
everyone with its unusual prompt response to dampen rumors. According to these
rumors, Apple was almost set for an official release of iMacs and Mac Minis on
November 10.
But Apple spokesman Bill Evans told Macworld: “Our holiday
line-up is set.” This comes to deny all reports according to which Apple was
planning a fall revamp of its desktops. At the same time, this is also a
surprise, considering some Macs would actually use an update (for example, the
Mac Mini, which has been waiting for over a year to get one).
Everyone expected Apple to release an update in order to
align to the latest technological performances, just in time for the shopping
spree of the holiday season.
But Apple seems to have other plans, and we may not see an
update for several months. That idea is also supported by another idea, that of
NVIDIA taking over a major role in the Mac line in the future. This could
probably explain why Apple is not in such a hurry to align to the latest Intel
Core 2 Duo microprocessors.
Apple presented earlier last month a new MacBook line during
a special media event held in Cupertino, which included two new MacBooks and a
special set of price cuts, just in time for the holiday season which is expected to boost sales, as always.
