Apple recently released two new commercials from its Mac
versus PC series, making fun of Microsoft’s marketing strategies. The ads are
actually very funny and manage, in their 30 seconds, to point out that
Microsoft’s efforts might be set in the wrong direction.
One of the ads presents John Hodgman in his PC role
allocating the company’s money for advertising and fixing Vista. The stack for
advertising is ridiculously large, while the one for the fix only has a few
bills. When the Mac suggests that this might not be the solution and maybe a
better deliberation on the situation should be considered, the PC says "You’re
right!" and adds the small reserve for fixing Vista to the advertising
stack.
The second ad shows Hodgman with a beeper meant to cover
anyone saying "Vista," as the company decided to drop the name and start
using the name Windows.
The battle between the two companies is unlikely to end any
time soon, considering that each one is 100 percent certain that its product is
better and use every opportunity to state it. At first, Microsoft did not directly
respond to Apple’s attacks but has now fallen into the trap and prefers to take
shots at its opponent instead on focusing on the presentation of its own
accomplishments and products. The company spends too much time talking about
stereotypes and the competition’s additional taxes and a much better strategy
would be to get into the matters concerning Vista and show a significant change
as soon as possible.
