Apple Releases 2.2 Update For The iPhone

Early Friday, Apple Incorporated released their latest software update for the iPhone, the 2.2 one, which offers a series of new features to the smartphone’s users.

These include Google Street View, a Google Maps and Google Earth tool that provides 360° panoramic street-level views, along with the option to view parts of the selected location at ground level, and over-the-air podcast downloads.

Moreover, the Google Maps application for the iPhone was updated to include public transport and walking directions, timetables, fares and a feature estimating the travel time, along with users’ ability to share their location via e-mail.

As for the podcasts, the 2.2 246MB update available for download in iTunes, now allows users to download audio and video files directly to their iPhone via both Wi-Fi and cellular network. Nevertheless, if the cellular network is the means chosen, users have to download files under 10MB.

Other improvements the update has brought forth include enhanced wide HTML email in the Mail app formatting, a Google search bar next to the address bar in the Safari browser, along with a better search experience where the aforementioned browser in concerned.

Furthermore, the 2.2 is said to reduce the number of dropped calls and to improve sound quality of Visual Voicemail messages, while the update now offers users the option to turn on/off their iPhone’s keyboard auto-correction.

The 2.2 update takes approximately 10 minutes to install and it has been announced to have solved isolated issues with scheduled fetching of e-mail.
