Apple Inc said no to a developer who submitted a new South Park iPhone game. In a note to the game’s developer, the company argued that the game had "potentially offensive" content.
What is even more curious about this decision is that Apple’s iTunes Store has two seasons of the popular TV show South Park: Uncensored. On iTunes Store the TV show does have a TV-MA (mature audiences) warning. So, shouldn’t Apple approve the South Park iPhone game and attach a warning to it?
Probably Apple thinks there is a difference between watching Kenny, Kyle, Cartman and Stan do their thing and playing a game that features the characters.
However, the developer of the game should have seen the Apple refusal and the attached note coming. They initially submitted the game for approval in October and, since then, they sent the game for approval several times, but eventually received the refusal and the note to explain it.
“At this point, we are sad to say the app is dead,” was written on a blog post on the South Park studio official website.
It’s not such a big surprise though. Those who are familiar with Apple App Store rules are used to refusals involving apps that are in contradiction with the company’s rules, but there are some cases when Apple refuses to approve some applications citing reasons known only by Apple. The South Park iPhone game is the subject of one of those cases.
