Apple Patches Its Felines, Tiger and Leopard

Apple recently released an important batch of patches for its beloved feline-pets, Tiger and Leopard, and the Cupertino, CA-based giant urges everyone who has one at home to do the same.

Technically dubbed “Security Update 2007-009 (10.5.1)”, the fixes address vulnerabilities in both operating systems and weigh from 15.9MB (in the case of PowePC-based Macs) to 35.6MB (in Intel-based Macs).

The focus of these updates is the Web, with Adobe Shockwave and Flash plug-ins sitting on top of the list, along with Web-oriented code like Perl, Python, and Ruby.

Black holes stuffed with Cupertino-crafted lines of code were present in essential parts of the OS, like the Core Foundation and Launch Services, but also in the Address Book, ColorSync, iChat, Mail, and Spotlight.
