Apple is getting close to serving its 1 billionth application through the App Store and doesn’t plan to let the even go unnoticed. The Cupertino-based Fruit company said it will reward the fellow who manages to download the 1 billionth application and to keep those interested on their toes, Apple even created a Web page designed to keep track of the number of downloads in the App Store.
It’s quite an astonishing accomplishment if you take into account the fact that the App World hasn’t even celebrated one year since its release. Just four months ago, the App Store had surpassed the 500 million downloads milestone.
As of this post, April 12th, the counter was of about 940 millions.
During the eight months of existence, the App Store managed to offer about 25,000 applications to its iPhone and iPod Touch users. According to the latest estimations, the Apple iPhone has about 17 million users in 80 countries.
Furthermore, the App Store is becoming more and more popular, especially after Apple allowed third-party developers to sell apps in the online market.
Apple said it will reward the customer who manages to download the one billionth app with $10,000 in iTunes credit, a 17-inch MacBook Pro, a 32-GB iPod Touch, and a Time Capsule.
