Apple May Have Two New Devices for Verizon: iPhone Lite, Media Pad

The talks between Apple and Verizon Wireless are heating up and, as it is rumored and reported from different reliable sources, Apple may have not one, but two iPhone-like devices for Verizon.

According to a report by BusinessWeek, Apple already has two devices destined for Verizon. The devices are in advanced prototype stages.

The first device will be a stripped-down version of the popular Apple smartphone or an iPhone 'Lite'.  This iPhone will have a list of features considerably shorter than the iPhone that is currently on the market. Consequently, the price tag of the iPhone Lite will be much lower.

The second device is reportedly a media tablet from which users can play music and videos, view photos, browse the Web with mobile Safari. The media tabled also works as a phone and users can call via a Wi-Fi connection.

The talks for a partnership that seems more and more likely these days have begun about six month ago and Steve Jobs, the legendary Apple CEO, was involved. Although it did not materialize yet, the perspective of this Apple-Verizon partnership gives us a glimpse of how much strength Apple has in the mobile market.

Initially, Apple wanted Verizon to be the exclusive provider of the iPhone, but the latter backed out of it. Now, after seeing what the iPhone did for AT&T, Verizon surely tries to correct the error.

"They didn't want to be involved and now realized it was a mistake," said independent wireless analyst Jeff Kagan, InformationWeek reported. "The bottom line is you got to keep your customers happy, or you'll lose subscribers. As hard as they want to compete, they don't have an iPhone. And that matters."
