The Macworld went on without Steve Jobs this year, and we can’t even blame him for not attending, since there wasn’t much to announce anyway. Ever since the iPhone made its way into the scene, everyone expected to see some new amazing gadget on every Macworld occasion, but that unfortunately was not the case this year.
So what did Apple fans get from this year’s presentation? First of all, there’s the 17’’ Macbook Pro, to the delight of many attendees who have been waiting for it for some time now. The notebook offers an 8-hour battery, costs $2,799 and will available starting later this month.
The ultra-thin MacBook Pro offers a widescreen 1920 x 1200 display, LED-backlit display that uses 30 percent less energy, it weighs only 6.6 pounds and is the most powerful notebook to date, using the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors, Apple explained.
The other announcement should make music fans happy: Apple decided to lower song prices. From now on, songs will be available for 69 cents, 99 cents or $1.29, but most albums will continue to be priced at $9.99.
Apple also introduced iLife ’09 with major upgrades for iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand. iLife also includes iDVD and an updated version of iWeb, and is available as a $79 upgrade for existing users, or simply included in new purchased Macs.
iWork also got an upgrade and many new features: Keynote ’09 comes with advanced object transitions that automatically animate objects with a choice of effects, and Magic Move, which creates sophisticated animations. Furthermore, Pages ’09 comes with a new Full Screen view, while Number ’09 brings fast ways to group and summarize data, and easy ways to create complex formulas.
Both iLife and iWork will be available through the Apple Store, Apple’s retail stores or authorized retailers.
