Apple Launches Redesigned, All-Aluminum Line of MacBooks

Apple Inc launched on Tuesday its new, redesigned MacBook line. The new MacBook and MacBook Air have an aluminum body built from a single piece of metal through a process known as the "Brick."

The Cupertino, California-based company has optimized the new line of MacBooks for a better structural stability and also incorporated a new LCD monitor which addresses to creative professionals. The new notebooks also include a new Cinema display featuring LED backlighting. The screen stays at 13.3 inches.

During the past week, there were many rumors on the blogosphere especially about the concept of the "Brick" which refers to a notebook designed from a single block of aluminum. The new concept gave birth to the new and redesigned MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and MacBook.

However, not all rumors about the new MacBook line were confirmed Tuesday. Many had hoped that Apple will drop the price of its least-expensive laptop to $800, but the software company lowered it by just $100, to $999.

While presenting the new MacBook line, Apple CEO Steve Jobs and chief operating officer Tim Cook told the audience that the design of the new notebooks is far better than their predecessors’. The all-aluminum cases are lighter, stronger and more environmentally-friendly than before.

When it comes to the inside, not many things have changed. The move most worth mentioning is that from the Intel GM965 chipset and integrated GMA X3100 graphics to an Nvidia chipset and integrated GeForce 9400M graphics. With the new line, customers get faster 1066MHz DDR3 memory and also have the possibility to upgrade to 4GB of RAM for only $150; previously adding 2GB of RAM cost $200.
