It seems that, as the iPhone and the iPod Touch are becoming more and more popular, Apple has to cope with an increasing number of lawsuits concerning various technologies used in these devices.
Now, Picsel Technologies filed a lawsuit against Apple regarding the infringement of several patents of the Glasgow-based company. In the court case, filed in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware, Picsel claims that Apple is using several of its patents in the rendering algorithms used in the iPhone and the iPod Touch.
The software company stated that the user interface of the iPhone is working flawlessly only because it is using its technology of accelerated rendering process that maintains a high update rate on the devices.
Particularly, lawyers at Nixon Peabody LLP, a well-known multipractice law firm in the United States that represents Picsel in the court, stated that the interface of the iPhone and the iPod Touch would run significantly slower, if it did not use Picsel Technology’s accelerated update patent.
According to the attorneys, the patents used by Apple particularly enhance the user experience in specific tasks, such as zooming and panning in photos, documents and websites in Safari Mobile. In the lawsuit, Picsel requested Apple to pay the company with an amount of money that would compensate the use of Picsel’s patents in all the devices that Apple has sold until now.
According to the official information on its website, Picsel Technologies has been bundling its various technology in the mobile devices of important corporate customers, including Sharp, Sony Ericcson, Samsung, Palm, Motorola and Nokia. Picsel claims that its patents have been successfully used in more than 250 million mobile devices worldwide.
