The iPhone is popular, South Park is popular, so what would you get when you put the two together? Absolutely nothing apparently, because you won’t be able to do that.
Back in October, South Park producers announced they had submitted an iPhone app for approval. As it appears, Apple has rejected it for being, and allow me to quote here, a “potentially offensive” application.
Let me explain what potentially offensive refers to, and why this doesn’t surprise me at all. The infamous app would have allowed iPhone users to watch South Park clips (I know, that sounds outrageous already), and have access to other South Park content (oh my God, this is unbearable).
The South Park producers have announced in a blog posting: At this point, we are sad to say, the app is dead in the water. Sorry, South Park fans.
Getting back to Apple’s rejection (which actually took place on multiple occasions), it does seem odd, considering it has allowed other apps that can be considered offensive (and probably are, in the true meaning of the word) to be downloaded from the App Store.
Despite announcing a remarkable success of its App Store (which even got other companies interested in doing the same thing), Apple seems to continue to live in its own little world, failing to give explanation for its actions in a satisfying manner.
Sure, Apple has let producers know that it might change its mind in the future. Considering how long it might take Apple to assess the implications of allowing the South Park app to run around free in the App Store, I can’t help but be amazed of how fast the company was in allowing farting apps or wobble bikini fun apps to go live. Nice going, Apple!
