Apple has sent invitations for an event on September 9th in San Francisco. The invitation pictures the silhouette of a dancing man with an iPod and is titled "Let's Rock," which probably means that, September being Apple's new iPod month, a new lineup of the music player will be announced or other type of iPod-related news.
It is quite expected that Apple announces a revamped iPod line, as its music player is the most outdated product line. Also, the iPod Touch might be hit with a price cut to make it more appealing for customers. The event will be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Performing Arts in San Francisco next Tuesday at 10 a.m. PDT.
There might be also a new iPod Touch which resembles the iPhone 3G (cheaper materials, more features). Either way, this Apple event means that you shouldn't buy an iPod right now. Wait it out until Tuesday and you will either be able to buy the same stuff at a lower price or a better, improved model at the same price tag.
In September 2005, Apple introduced the iPod nano; in September 2006, the Cupertino company overhauled the shuffle, nano, and video-capable iPods; a year later, in September 2007, Apple launched the third-generation iPod nano.
The founder of the popular Web site Digg, Mr. Kevin Rose, offered his visitors a week ago a peek at the new iPod, providing a photo of what he claimed to be Apple’s new design for its product and also several of its new features. According to his blog post, the new widescreen will be viewable in landscape format and not in portrait. Rose's predictions include a comment on the new iTunes 8.0, which “surprisingly” will contain new features compared to its predecessor, a 2.1 software update will be released for the iPod Touch.
Kevin Rose did not disclose the source of his information and he claims that everything he presented will be confirmed by Apple’s official release and presentation. Here is what Rose predicted for September 9: revamp of the entire iPod line, with small design changes in Touch and a complete makeover for Nano; price cuts for iPods “to distance from the $199 iPhone;” iPod touch 2.1 software, followed by an iPhone update as well; and iTunes 8.0, which he called “a big update.”
