How many times didn’t you wish you could take your computer
or console with you, to continue that game you are so addicted to? Fortunately,
technology today offers games on the go on the one device that we can’t seem to
live without, our phone. Slowly but surely, phones become pocket-size video
game platforms, and the best example of that is the iPhone.
According to a report released shortly after Apple launched the
iPhone 3G and the App Store, users were most interested in games than in any
other application. The best part of all was that games ranked first in both
free and paid apps categories. This came to confirm earlier predictions that
the iPhone will soon turn into a gaming platform, rivaling all portable video
game gadgets.
At the time, the most downloaded game was Super Monkey Ball,
followed by Texas Hold’em, Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D, Enigmo, and Tetris.
The same popularity was also reported on the iPod touch, and
as a proof of that, the App Store is still overwhelmed by game downloads (the
top ten selling apps continues to be dominated by games, according to the most
recent figures).
Many of the iPhone, iPod users have admitted to becoming
quite addicted to the growing number of games, and at the same time, developers
now show increasing interest in developing even more games for Apple’s devices.
That includes even world’s largest game publishers.
Apple’s App Store currently hosts over 1,700 games, and their
number grows every month, and so does users’ interest in games. So it should
come as no surprise if soon, we will find the iPhone titles in the top 10 best
selling games.
