AppStore: On The Verge To Become The iTunes Of Mobile World

Even if you are not an Apple fun, you should admit that Steve Jobs is a genius. And his latest interview with The Wall Street Journal is nothing but a new triumph for Jobs and Apple.

After in less than an year, the iPhone has managed to become the most talked about phone in the world, now Steve Jobs is on the verge to redefine the mobile business.

Released one month ago, the AppStore has sold 60 million applications, a figure which is pretty impressive especially because there are under 10 million iPhones worldwide.

In less then two years, Steve Jobs has changed the focus of the mobile business from hardware to software.

Since June 2007, when the first generation of iPhone was released to the public, almost every cell phone maker has tried to create a touch screen device, able to rival Apple’s ultimate gadget.

But in just six month, since announcing the iPhone SDK and AppStore, Steve Jobs has changed again the focus.

In fact, Steve Jobs has proven that the success of iPod + iTunes combo is not just a random event and he is using the same scheme, apparently with the similar success.

Created as a store to support and promote the iPod, in just six years iTunes evolved in the number one music retailer in the US. And it seems like AppStore will take the same road.

Of course, one can argue that selling 60 million applications in one month is nothing compared to the number of programs sold in the same period for Windows Mobile or Symbian. And it seems like a drop in the ocean if we are talking about Java mobile applications.

But let’s not forget that are tens of millions of phones based on Windows Mobile, Symbian or or capable to run Java aplications compared to less than 10 million iPhones.

And, also let’s not forget that Apple is still a newcomer on the mobile phones market. However, Jobs’ interview will surely ignite lot of debates, but one thing is clear: everyone who is or wants to get involved in the mobile phones market should keep an eye on Apple.
