A recent study shows that children suffering from anxiety disorder manifest better results when treated with a combined therapy, including talk therapy and antidepressant medication.
Doctors say that there are three treatments for children suffering from anxiety, including talk therapy, which requires a specialist in this domain, antidepressant medication or a combination of the two. Recent findings show that children or adolescents who received the combined therapy treatment reacted better than others treated with the more traditional ways.
Doctors also say it is a good thing that there is a multitude of treatments, giving parents a choice in how to treat their children. They also said that because of the multitude of treatments, a possible way of dealing with the disorder can be found in most communities.
Anxiety is best described by a sensation of constant worrying and uneasiness which is normal to some extent. These feelings can be helpful in stressful situations as they make the body respond better to different situation. On the other hand, when somebody experiences these symptoms in excess, there is a problem. Most of the times anxiety is produced by continuous stress, which makes a person feel hopeless constantly.
The current experiment consisted of four groups of children and teenagers suffering from the disorder being treated with several treatments.
The first group only received talk therapy, the second one antidepressant medication, the third group received the combined therapy and the fourth group placebos and the careful observation of a psychologist. The results clearly indicated that the third group responded the best to the treatment which means that combined therapy might just be the way to go when dealing with anxiety disorder.
