Antigua’s Prime Minister has asked British police to help
solve the murder of Doctor Catherine Mullany and the shooting of her spouse,
which took place while they were on honeymoon on the Caribbean
island.
In the meantime, the family of the doctor’s seriously
injured husband began to take measures in order to fly him home to continue
medical care, police spokesman Cornelium Charles informed AFP.
In a national transmission on Wednesday, Antigua Prime
Minister Baldwin Spencer said that his government had made an official call to
Scotland Yard (London’s
Metropolitan Police) for its support in solving the case.
Physician Catherine Mullany and her husband, Benjamin, both
aged 31, were shot on Sunday at their honeymoon cottage. Unfortunately, the
doctor died and her spouse is fighting to survive in an intensive care ward,
being critically injured from the bullets that penetrated his head and neck.
Antigua police officials
consider that the incident was meant to be a simple robbery, but it turned out
to be worst than anyone would have thought. As reported by AFP, Police Chief
Gary Nelson said that his team was following several tracks and had been
inquiring people on the subject of the murder, although no arrests had been
made. Nonetheless, Gary Nelson said he expected that the 130,000 dollar reward
offered by local hotels would stimulate people to present what they knew about
the case.
The newlyweds, from Pontardawe, in South
Wales, were approaching the end of a two-week honeymoon on the
island when they were assailed.
