Tens of thousands of people have escaped the so-far certain death brought on by AIDS. The reason why these people are still alive and are leading a life as close to normal as possible is because they have been receiving treatment ever since they found out they were infected with HIV.
Researchers are now turning their attentions to other benefits and effects there antiretroviral pills may have on people who are most prone to contracting the HIV virus. There is a possibility that the pills used as treatment for those infected with HIV, pills which were invented and have been in use since the middle of the 1990s, might contribute to a preventive purpose. It is possible that these pills may be given to those who live in areas with a high probability of both HIV infections and developing AIDS, and have the effect of preventing the virus and the disease. Momentarily clinical trials are being held, with the purpose of observing whether or not these pills may block the virus in those who are already infected with HIV and protect those who have not contracted the virus from it affecting them.
Researchers, scientists and doctors have been struggling to find better treatments for the elusive and deadly virus and even manage to discover a cure for both HIV and AIDS. For the past decades, they have been fighting to make a vaccine and all their efforts have so far been in vain. Because of the past failures, they are all clinging to any possible solutions that may leas them to discover the much-coveted medicine. So far, animal testing has given the researchers hope that these pills may some day be successfully used in preventing AIDS in humans.
