Red Hot Chili Pepper frontman Anthony Kiedis welcomed his first child earlier this month and says being a father is different from anything else he has experienced.

The 44-year-old rocker and model girlfriend Heather Christie, 22 years his junior, welcomed their first child, a boy, on October 2. The baby was born at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, according to media reports.

Mom and dad have lost no time in thinking up an interesting name for their baby: Everly Bear. Kiedis shared the meaning of his firstborn’s name with People magazine over the weekend.

“We had a long list of names, but I suppose it came to me by way of the Everly Brothers, which is one of my favorite bands,” the Red Hot Chili Peppers singer said at a fundraiser for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in LA, reports People.com. “And sometimes last names make good first names.”

The Bear part was apparently mom’s doing. “The mama came up with Bear,” Kiedis said. “That made sense to me because he's from me and I feel like I'm part of the bear clan, and I think it's nice to have a little bit of earth in your name.”

The singer confessed that fatherhood compares to nothing he has experienced so far. “Being a father is different, it's much different. I sleep when I can, but he's letting me off pretty easy so far. He's a very calm and peaceful kid.”

The rocker has been in the Red Hot Chili Peppers for nearly a quarter of a decade now. The Grammy award-winning band’s most recent album is 2006’s “Stadium Arcadium,” nominated for the Album of the Year Grammy in 2007. The album was their first No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200.
