A strange occurrence took place in the Wal Mart situated on Appleton Avenue in Germantown, which called for an evacuation of the store.
According to the most recent reports, it seems that Wal Mart was filled with a strange odor that made all the people in the store start coughing. The authorities quickly took action and proceeded to evacuate all the staff and customers from the store.
A similar incident occurred in another Wal Mart in Washington County, just the day before.
In Georgetown, the Wal Mart in question was closed down for about three hours, while firefighters tested the air in the store to see of it presented any kind of hazard. Dan Fogleman, a spokesperson for Wal Mart, said that they are still investigating the source of the odor. So far, it is believed that the source of the foul odor may be related to sewer gas.
The police in Georgetown are taking further action in their quest to establish who was behind the incident. One of the fist steps they will take will be to review the surveillance tapes in the area, in hope that they will catch the one who released the odor into Wal Mart.
As a result of the chemical being released into the store, it seems that at least 47 people were taken to hospital for treatment of respiratory problems. So far, the authorities have not said what chemical was released into Wal Mart.
