Another Solo Album for That Lucky Beach Boy Brian Wilson

After “Smile”, the revival of a lost Beach Boys project, Brian Wilson brings out new material, with far less history and torment attached to it, but with more enthusiasm and insight. “That Lucky Old Sun” is due to hit the market on Tuesday.

The sole surviving Wilson brother sees this new album more as a confession and, in the same time, a look back on his years as a young musician in sunny California but also on his solo efforts after the Beach Boys broke up.

''I wasted a lot of years'' he laments, but recovers quickly in a more optimistic note and sings: ''I'm filling up my lungs again and breathing in life.''

Critics are not very excited about the actual musical value of the material, but on a more personal level, and with a better understanding of how the ‘60s really were and what the “Beach Boys” really meant, “That Lucky Old Sun” is a beautiful portray of that era. It also talks about dark years and bad decisions made back in the day when everything was all about the sex, the drugs, the rock’n’roll and also about the surfing.

Some say that the album sounds like it was recorded some thirty years ago because of its easy going pop sound, but for the man who “wished they all could be California girls” it’s all good news and good vibrations as he remains a Beach Boy forever.
