Wisteria Lane vamp Nicollette Sheridan and soft-voiced crooner Michael Bolton are calling off their engagement after three years spent together following an 8-year break which came after a 5-year relationship…

It’s been a rocky road for Nicollette Sheridan and Michael Bolton, what with their getting together and breaking it off and then reuniting with seemingly more passion than ever before, soon announcing their engagement and two years later calling off the whole thing.

Sheridan, 44, and Bolton, 55, first became a couple in the early 1990s but separated in 1997, after 5 years together. An 8-year break ensued, after which the former lovers became current lovers once more in 2005.

In 2006, the two announced they had become engaged. All looked well. Michael Bolton, who has swept women from all across the world off their feet with soft rock ballads like “Love Is a Wonderful Thing” and “Time, Love and Tenderness,” told the New York Daily News in January 2006 that he was “very committed” to his relationship with Sheridan and that he had a “good feeling about the future.”

Sheridan was likewise enthused in interviews about her rekindled romance with Bolton.

The actress and the singer confirmed their break-up through Sheridan’s publicist, Nicole Perna, who told People magazine Tuesday in an exclusive statement that the two had “amicably ended their engagement.”

The parsimonious statement added that Sheridan and Bolton “appreciate your respect for their privacy in this matter.”

Nicollette Sheridan, who stars as scheming suburban bombshell Edie Britt in the ABC hit television show “Desperate Housewives,” was previously married to “L.A. Law” actor Harry Hamlin. She and Hamlin wed in 1991 and separated the following year. Sheridan had become famous at the time for her role as Paige Matheson on “Knots Landing.”

Michael Bolton, whose albums have sold more than 53 million copies around the world and who received Grammy awards in 1989 and 1991 for male pop vocal performance, was previously married to Maureen McGuire for 15 years and is father to three girls.
