Raffaello Follieri, an Italian businessman who was Anne Hathaway’s boyfriend until recently, has been arrested on multiple criminal charges and if found guilty could spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Mr. Follieri has been arrested on several counts of fraud, money laundering, and for wire fraud conspiracy. One of the schemes the Italian seems to have put was saying that he is the Vatican’s chief financial officer in order to determine people to give him funds for his business.
It seems that the efforts he made to pose as a Vatican insider went as far as him displaying Vatican robes in his office and asking a priest to appear wearing a robe above his rank in order to give him more credit.
Luckily for Anne Hathaway, she moved out of the relation before it had time to affect her in any way. The actress from ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ has not been called in for questioning on any of the counts.
However, it seems that the funds that were raised by Mr. Follieri in an allegedly illegal way have been used for a trip he and Miss Hathaway took during New Year's Eve two years ago together with another couple, as well as paying for the $37,000 apartment in which they lived until recently. Another thing the money was used for was orthodontist treatment for Raffaelo’s father, as well as paying for medical care.
The cumulative years in prison Mr. Follieri could face if found guilty could add up to more than 100.
