In a shocking testimony regarding the death of Anna’s son, Daniel Smith, Larry Birkhead, the playmate’s former lover, told the court that the 20-year-old young man was a drug abuser.

According to Larry, Anna Nicole preferred her son to mess with drugs in her house rather than experiment with friends, so she even gave him an Ecstasy pill.

Birkhead said that, in the months before his death, Daniel had got involved with a bad crowd at school and started drinking alcohol and abusing drugs.

"She didn't care for the kids he was hanging out with at the community college he attended," said Birkhead, who added that between January and May 2006, while he lived with Anna Nicole, he noticed an increasing tension between mother and son. Apparently, Daniel lost a lot of weight and was hospitalized following sedatives abuse in that period.

Birkhead also testified that in April 2006, Anna realized that some of her methadone was missing, so she set up surveillance cameras in the house. When checking them, she found out that Daniel and his friends were stealing her drugs.

While he was at war over Anna’s girl Dannielynn with Howard K. Stern, Larry Birkhead declared that he had seen Stern smoking pot together with Anna and Daniel. After making peace with Stern and gaining full custody of Dannielynn, Birkhead changed his testimony, saying he was unsure of what he saw.

He also changed his mind about his previous testimony that Anna gave her son methadone.

Daniel Smith died on the 10^th of September 2006 from an accidental overdose of methadone, Zoloft and Lexapro.
