After weeks of speculation regarding her suspiciously hidden midriff during public appearances, Angelina Jolie discarded flowing garments and strategically placed purses in favor of a tight fitting black gown that revealed a lovely baby bump.

Angelina Jolie was among the nominees at Saturday’s 2008 Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica, Calif. when she finally confirmed, though nonverbally, rumors regarding her pregnancy.

The actress walked the blue carpet with partner Brad Pitt and refused to answer reporters’ questions but really, there was no doubt that her protruding belly will produce the couple’s second biological child and fifth offspring.

Angelina and Brad are already parents to four very famous children: Cambodian-born Maddox, 6; Ethiopian-born Zahara, 2; Vietnamese-born Pax Thien, 3; and biological daughter Shiloh, born in Namibia in May 2006. The couple’s adoption of Pax Thien was made official last week.

An unnamed source told People magazine this weekend that Jolie, 32, and Pitt, 44, “are thrilled to be adding to their brood.”

Angelina was nominated in the best female lead category at the Spirit Awards, for her portrayal of Mariane Pearl in “A Mighty Heart,” the 2007 film directed by Michael Winterbottom after Mariane Pearl’s memoir of the same name.

The film tells the tragic real-life story of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, who was kidnapped and killed by terrorists in Pakistan in 2002.

Brad Pitt was one of the film’s producers. “A Mighty Heart” premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.

Jolie did not win the independent trophy, which went instead to newcomer Ellen Page, the acclaimed young star of “Juno.” “A Mighty Heart” was also nominated in the best feature and best first screenplay categories, but lost to “Juno” and Diablo Cody, respectively.

It was probably extreme interest over the couple’s reportedly growing brood that led one young man to snoop around their Los Angeles home last month. The housekeeper called police and the 25-year-old self-described “freelance reporter” was arrested.
