Angelina Jolie Takes Tom Cruise’s Place in Thriller Movie

What did Angelina Jolie and Tom Cruise have in common? A role in the thriller “Edwin A. Salt.” It seems that the actress will take Tom Cruises part in the new spy thriller. According to Variety, Tom Cruise was expected to play the part, but the role was adapted so that Angelina Jolie could play it.

The original script was originally written so that a male actor would fit the part, but Jolie’s interest for the part made the writers change the role. “Edwin A. Salt,” a Columbia Pictures espionage thriller, will be released in 2010. Screenwriter Kurt Wimmer made the adjustments to the part so that Angelina Jolie could take Tom Cruise’s place.

Jolie will play a CIA officer who is accused of being a Russian sleeper spy. In order to prove that she’s is innocent, she has to avoid being captured. The actress has not signed the deal yet, but reports showed she is very likely to take the part.

Apparently, Tom Cruise and other male actors were also interested in the project, but the studio decided to redraft the script after Angelina Jolie suggested she was also attracted by the project. The fresh mother is known for her roles in other action movies like “Wanted” and “Tomb Raider.”

“Edwin A. Salt” is produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Sunil Perkash and, even though the main character is a man, sources say that the movie will not suffer many changes if Angelina Jolie takes the part, Variety reported.

The actress will be seen next in Clint Eastwood’s “Changeling,” which will be released on October 24.
