It’s a reunion of Academy Award winners as Angelina Jolie has begun work on her latest film, the Clint Eastwood directed drama, “The Changeling.”
Angelina Jolie is joined by John Malkovich, Jeffrey Donovan and Colm Feore in a drama set in the 1920s and based on a true story.
Angelina will play a woman whose child is abducted and then returned to her. She suspects that the child meant to be her rescued son is in fact not hers and turns to the Los Angeles Police Department for help.
Corruption in the LAPD allegedly leads to her being thrown in an insane asylum, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Donovan will play a police captain, Feore the chief of police, and Malkovich a clergyman, the HR says.
Variety reports that J. Michael Straczynski authored the film’s script. “The Changeling” will be co-produced by Universal, Imagine and Eastwood's Malpaso. Brian Grazer and Ron Howard will produce with Malpaso's Rob Lorenz.
The trade paper also says that Angelina, who received an Academy Award for best supporting actress for her portrayal of a rebellious mental patient in 1999’s “Girl, Interrupted,” will start filming for “Atlas Shrugged,” once this project is over.
Variety says the adaptation of Ayn Rand's 1957novel has been “long a passion project for her (Angelina).” Lionsgate is reportedly cooperating with Vadim Perelman to rewrite the movie’s script. It will be produced by Howard and Karen Baldwin and Media Talent Group's Geyer Kosinski.
The 32-year-old’s recent screen credits include 2006’s “The Good Shepherd,” a CIA thriller directed by Robert De Niro, and this year’s “A Mighty Heart,” a film adaptation of Mariane Pearl's memoir of the same title.
Angelina next appears on the big screen in “Wanted,” a thriller directed by Timur Bekmambetov and co-starring James McAvoy and Morgan Freeman; as well as “Beowulf,” a fantasy film directed by Robert Zemecki with a cast including Anthony Hopkins, Robin Wright Penn, Alison Lohman and John Malkovich.
“Beowulf” is slated for a mid-November release, while “Wanted” has been scheduled for release in spring 2008.
