Expectant Angelina Jolie has opened up about her pregnancy
for the first time, telling People magazine she recently “felt kicking
suddenly” while discussing Iraq
education policy in Washington
D.C.
U.N. goodwill ambassador Angelina Jolie was in Washington D.C. this week
to discuss Iraq
education policy when she “suddenly felt kicking” Tuesday as she talked before
the Council on Foreign Relations.
Jolie confessed this to People, making it the first
time she talks about her pregnancy with the media. “It is a very special time
in our lives,” she confessed to the magazine.
The 32-year-old mother of four brought sons Maddox, 6, and
Pax, 4, with her to the nation’s capital. She will be in D.C. all week before
re-joining Brad Pitt and their daughters Zahara, 3, and Shiloh,
1, People reports.
Jolie talked about her two visits to Iraq and about her new initiative,
Education Partnership for Children of Conflict. She described EPCC as “a center
that helps raise awareness and coordinate all the various efforts of people
working towards education for children of conflict.”
“The best way to heal children of conflict from trauma is to
have them focus on their future,” the humanitarian said.
In early February, Jolie, who is a goodwill ambassador for
the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, joined under secretary of
State Paula Dobriansky on a US government mission with the State Department to
Iraq, “to learn more about the humanitarian crisis and the 4 million displaced
people, 58 percent of whom are under 12,” her philanthropic adviser, Trevor
Neilson, said at the time.
Jolie fearlessly mingled with American troops at a US military base in the high-security Green Zone
in central Baghdad and met with Gen. David
Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri
al-Maliki.
Jolie and Pitt are already parents to a happy brood of four:
Cambodian-born Maddox, 6; Ethiopian-born
Zahara, 2; Vietnamese-born Pax Thien, 3; and biological daughter Shiloh, born
in Namibia
in May 2006. The couple’s adoption of Pax Thien was made official in February.
While speculation regarding a new adoption for the couple is
always blooming and has momentarily been put to rest by Jolie’s growing baby
bump, rumors that she and Pitt are expecting twins or that they plan to have
the baby in France are still in the air.
