Andy Dick can heave a sigh of relief. The comedian escaped
sexual battery charges, although he was officially charged with assault and
drug possession, following his July arrest, prosecutors in Riverside County, California,
said on Monday, according to PEOPLE magazine.
The 42-year-old ex “NewsRadio” star faces four misdemeanors.
Apart from assault accusations, he was charged with public intoxication, as
well as with possession of marijuana and Xanax, without having a prescription
for the latter.
The D.A.’s representative said the comedian was not charged
with sexual battery because, “We found that his actions were more in line with
an assault than with a sexual battery. It didn’t appear to be an overt sexual
act,” the Los Angeles Times reported.
Andy Dick was arrested on July 16 outside the Buffalo Wild
Wings Grill & Bar in Murrieta,
California, after he supposedly
approached a 17-year-old young woman and pulled down her tank top and bra,
exposing her breasts.
According to police reports, the actor was “extremely
intoxicated” and drugs were found in his pockets.
This is far from being the first unlawful act by Andy Dick.
He was cited last year in Columbus,
Ohio, for urinating on the sidewalk
and a building and was taken into custody 4 years ago for pot possession.
However, the 2004 case was subsequently dropped.
In addition to this, one year later, the comedian sparked
controversy in Edmonton, Alberta, at a comedy club where he took his
pants off and exposed his genitals to the audience. Amid the hullabaloo, Andy
Dick was ushered off the stage and the second night was suspended.
