Hollywood celebrity Lindsay Lohan proved to be the queen of worst awards at the 28th Annual Golden Raspberry Awards with an astounding eight wins, shattering previous records.
Also known as the Razzies, the “Awards” recognize the previous years’ worst in film and are announced on the eve of the film industry’s biggest night, the Academy Awards presentation.
Lohan’s thriller “I Know Who Killed Me,” in which she plays a small-town girl abducted by a psychopath, and an alter-ego stripper who is missing body parts, was named Worst Film, Worst Picture, Worst Excuse for a Horror Movie, and Worst Remake or Rip-Off. The movie also brought Worst Director and Worst Screenplay distinction for Jeffrey Hammond. Lohan was named Worst Actress for the two characters she played in the film, and also Worst Couple, again for her dual role.
And so, Lohan’s movie succeeded to top the previous record of seven Razzies for both “Showgirls” (1996) and “Battlefield Earth” (2001).
"I Know Who Killed Me" was a major box office flop, winning $9 million worldwide.
We have to wonder who Lohan will thank for all these dis-honors.
Eddie Murphy, one of the nominees at the Academy Awards on Sunday for his role in “I Am Legend” was also one of the ”most awarded” actors at the Razzies, taking home three awards: Worst Actor, Worst Supporting Actor and Worst Supporting Actress for his numerous roles in comedy “Norbit,” which was mauled by critics. Murphy also set a new record himself, being the first person ever to win three acting Razzies in one year.
The movie still had success at box offices, with taking of $158 million worldwide.
Despite the “fierce” competition between Murphy and Lohan, the Cuba Gooding Jr. comedy “Daddy Day Camp” managed to secure the Razzie for Worst Prequel or Sequel.
Nominees were determined by mailing ballots to 747 voters in 44 states and 18 foreign countries. "Winners" of the awards receive a gold-spray-painted statuette valued at $4.89.
No matter what people say, Lohan and Murphy are far better than Sylvester Stallone who has received thirty nominations and ten wins and is the actor with the largest number of nominations and wins at the Razzies.
