The troubled husband of troubled British singer Amy Winehouse is to serve 27 months in prison for attacking the 36-year-old landlord of a pub in the trendy district of Hoxton in east London in June 2006. The 26-year-old Fielder-Civil has been in jail since November 2007, awaiting trial, thus he already served some nine months on remand, so in theory he could be released in another four and a half months, based on an assumption of good behavior.
He faced up to five years in prison for his primary assault charge, as well as additional prison time for the perverting the course of justice charge, which means he got off well overall.
Blake Fielder-Civil admitted to assaulting James King, pub owner of Macbeth’s pub in London and also admitted he had attempted to pervert the course of justice by offering King money to withdraw his allegations and leave the country. The injured man allegedly required metal plates fitted in his face after the attack. Three of Fielder-Civil’s co-defendants in the case also pleaded guilty to charges related to the crime. Michael Brown was sentenced to a total of 33 months while the two other defendants were given sentences respectively of 20 months and 40 weeks suspended for 12 months.
Last month, Amy Winehouse fainted at her North London home after signing autographs for fans and was taken for tests to a London hospital. She was suspected of early emphysema, possibly due to the combined abuse of drugs and tobacco, but was photographed smoking again right out of the hospital. However, she succeeded to perform at concert in Hyde Park in London celebrating the 90th birthday of Nelson Mandela.
Late last month, she was supposedly grabbed by a fan at the Glastonbury Festival and she threw a punch at him in what appeared to be self-defense. The victim, 25-year-old James Gostelow, from London, explained that the alleged grabbing or attacking of Winehouse was a misunderstanding, as apparently somebody from behind him threw a hat at Winehouse's beehive.
Winehouse and Fielder-Civil married last May in Miami, Florida, only to have their freshly started marriage interrupted by the husband’s being taken into custody. The couple has had a rocky first year of marriage, what with the drug abuse stories, being arrested in Norway for possession of cannabis, being photographed wandering the streets of London all bruised and scratched and, as of the last few months, Fielder-Civil has been in jail, where he will cool down for a while.
Maybe it's for the better for both of them. They are both dopeheads with repeated drug and violence offenses. Amy Winehouse also admitted she beats up Blake Fielder-Civil in a WENN interview, but she does it only when she is drunk (which is only half of the time).
Amy Winehouse was ranked number two on Richard Blackwell's 48th annual "Ten Worst Dressed Women" list, behind Victoria Beckham. She canceled a string of concerts last year, both in Europe and North America, due to poor health. She checked in and out of rehab facilities and has even been investigated by the police last year after a video showing her use drugs was sent to a British paper.
