Police said on Friday they will not take any further action against British singer Amy Winehouse in connection with her husband's alleged attempt to pervert the course of justice.
The Grammy Award-winning singer, who failed to show up in court today for her husband Blake Fielder-Civil's arraignment, was interviewed by police in December but as of today she is no longer a suspect in the case, and no further action will be taken against her.
A spokesperson for Winehouse said: "Amy is pleased to be discounted from the investigation and thanks the police for their professionalism in their dealings with her."
25-year-old Fielder-Civil, who is accused of attacking pub landlord James King at the Macbeth public house in Hoxton, east London, in June 2006 and of conspiring to pervert the course of justice by offering King a sum of money to withdraw his allegation and leave the country, pleaded not guilty. He was remanded in custody until April.
Just like Winehouse, Fielder-Civil's mother Georgette, who hasn't missed a date, wasn’t present at the hearing either.
"She's a mess at the moment. I don't think she's visiting him much either," a source close to Winehouse was quoted by People.com as saying, while her publicist said she was absent because she was in Paris where she is scheduled to perform at a party for fashion designer Louis Vuitton.
Most recently, a judge agreed to postpone the singer's court hearing in Norway, which was supposed to take place on Friday, because Fielder-Civil, who was in a London court today, was also required to attend the hearing. He, Winehouse and a third person were arrested in October on charges of marijuana possession and freed on a $715 bail each.
Winehouse appealed the fine, insisting that she though she was signing her release form, not a guilty plea as she did.
